Solar Power Generation
Integrating Photovoltaics to NOMADiQ's Shelter designs.
Building Integrated Solar, or Building Integrated Photovolataics (BIPV) are solar panels that are customised for the NOMADiQ Shelter range which offers an alternative power source. This lightweight, flexible and durable product applies expertise for combinations of thin film solar products with materials such as fabric, metal, membrane and other materials. PowerFilm integrated solar panels (thin film of plastic) are developed and manufactured with a proprietary roll process and they are truly rollable unlike other thin film technologies that are only somewhat flexible. The solar panels are all monolithically integrated which eliminates the need for damage prone manual connections or individual solar cells. The solar products are made of silicon, a natural resource and are also Cadmium free which enables the panels to perform well in diverse environments (world wide), easy to transport and lightweight and they do not suffer from over-voltage.
PowerFilm Solar panels have up to 20 years warranty. Examples of successfully integrated PowerFilm Solar panels include command posts, warehouses, hospitals, commercial buildings and schools.
Application
PowerFilm Solar panels can be integrated to the SIPS roof of NOMADiQ's Shelter range with a durable single-ply roofing membrane. Single-ply roofing membrane is commonly used on commercial buildings, warehouses, hospitals, schools, etc. The lightweight nature of this product along with its durability is valued in these applications. Integrated rolls of membrane roofing is attractive from both a sustainability and an economic perspective.
Depending on preference, PowerFilm Solar panels can also be integrated with a standing seam metal roofing which is conformable to a variety of architectural styles. The low profile and flexibility enables it to be incorporated with innovative straight or curved architectural structures. This not only provides power but also enhances the overall building design.
Military / Disaster Relief / Remote Locations
The lightweight, portable and rugged characteristics of thin, flexible solar panels and products are ideal for deployment for military or rapid response operations. As costs for traditional energy sources rise, finding alternatives for power becomes imperative. In the military market alone, fuel costs can run into the ten and hundreds of millions of dollars. The PowerFilm Solar applications have proven to be an attractive, cost-effective and reliable power source for military and disaster relief operations as they are capable of supplying up to 3kW of power in even the most remote locations, thus reducing dependence on noisy fuel-fired power genetors and reducing casuality risk with shortened logistical tail.
